ܘܥܒܕ ܐܣܐ ܕܛܒ ܘܕܫܦܝܪ ܩܕܡ ܡܪܝܐ ܐܠܗܗ

So Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in David’s city; and Asa his son reigned in his place. In his days, the land was quiet ten years.

ܘܥܩܪ ܡܕ̈ܒܚܐ ܕܐܠܗ̈ܐ ܢܘܟܪ̈ܝܐ ܘܒܘܡ̈ܣܐ ܘܬܒܪ ܩܝܡ̈ܬܐ ܘܦܣܩ ܐܢܕܪ̈ܝܢܛܐ
'ndrynT' wpsq qymth' wthbr wbwms' nwkry' d'lh' mdbkh' weqr
Asa did that which was good and right in Yahweh his God’s eyes,

ܘܐܡܪ ܠܝܗܘܕܐ ܬܘ ܢܨܠܐ ܩܕܡ ܡܪܝܐ ܐܠܗܐ ܕܐܒܗ̈ܬܢ
d'bhthn 'lh' mry' qdm ntsl' thw lyhwd' w'mr
for he took away the foreign altars and the high places, broke down the pillars, cut down the Asherah poles,

ܘܥܩܪ ܡܢ ܟܠܗܝܢ ܩܘܪ̈ܝܐ ܕܒܝܬ ܝܗܘܕܐ ܥܠܘ̈ܬܐ ܘܦܬܟܪ̈ܐ ܘܐܬܢܝܚܬ ܡܠܟܘܬܗ ܒܝܘܡ̈ܬܗ ܘܒܥܠܕܒܒܐ ܠܐ ܗܘܐ ܠܗ ܡܢ ܟܠܗܘܢ ܒܥ̈ܠܝ ܬܚܘܡܗ
thkhwmh bely klhwn mn lh hw' l' wbeldbb' bywmthh mlkwthh w'thnykhth wpthkr' elwth' yhwd' dbyth qwry' klhyn mn weqr
and commanded Judah to seek Yahweh, the God of their fathers, and to obey his law and command.

ܘܒܢܐ ܩܘܪ̈ܝܐ ܥܫܝ̈ܢܬܐ ܒܐܪܥܐ ܕܝܗܘܕܐ ܡܛܠ ܕܐܬܢܝܚܬ ܐܪܥܐ ܘܠܐ ܐܝܬ ܗܘܐ ܐܢܫ ܕܥܒܕ ܥܡܗܘܢ ܩܪܒܐ ܫܢ̈ܝܐ ܗܠܝܢ ܡܛܘܠ ܕܐܢܝܚܗ ܗܘܐ ܡܪܝܐ
mry' hw' d'nykhh mTwl hlyn shny' qrb' emhwn debd 'nsh hw' 'yth wl' 're' d'thnykhth mTl dyhwd' b're' eshynth' qwry' wbn'
Also he took away out of all the cities of Judah the high places and the sun images; and the kingdom was quiet before him.

ܘܐܡܪ ܠܕܒܝܬ ܝܗܘܕܐ ܬܘ ܢܒܢܐ ܩܘܪ̈ܝܐ ܗܠܝܢ ܘܢܟܪܟ ܐܢܝܢ ܫܘܪ̈ܐ ܘܡܓ̈ܕܠܐ ܘܬܪ̈ܥܐ ܘܣܘܟܪ̈ܐ ܥܕ ܫܠܝܐ ܐܪܥܐ ܡܢ ܩܐܪܣܐ ܡܛܠ ܕܒܥܝܢ ܠܡܪܝܐ ܐܠܗܢ ܘܐܦ ܗܘ ܒܥܢ ܘܐܢܝܚܢ ܡܢ ܟܠܗܘܢ ܕܚܕܪ̈ܝܢ ܘܒܝܐܢ ܘܦܨܝܢ
wptsyn wby'n dkhdryn klhwn mn w'nykhn ben hw w'p 'lhn lmry' dbeyn mTl q'rs' mn 're' shly' ed wswkr' wthre' wmgdl' shwr' 'nyn wnkrk hlyn qwry' nbn' thw yhwd' ldbyth w'mr
He built fortified cities in Judah; for the land was quiet, and he had no war in those years, because Yahweh had given him rest.

ܘܗܘܘ ܠܐܣܐ ܓܒܪ̈ܐ ܓܢܒܪ̈ܝ ܚܝܠܐ ܫ̇ܩ̈ܠܝ ܣܟܪ̈ܐ ܘܪ̈ܘܡܚܐ ܡܢ ܒܝܬ ܝܗܘܕܐ ܬܠܬܡܐܐ ܐܠܦܝ̈ܢ ܘܡܢ ܕܒܝܬ ܒܢܝܡܝܢ ܠܒܝ̈ܫܝ ܫܪܝܢܐ ܘܡܬܚ̈ܝ ܩܫܬܐ ܡܐܬܝܢ ܘܬܡܢܐܝܢ ܐܠܦܝ̈ܢ ܟܠܗܘܢ ܗܠܝܢ ܓܢܒܪ̈ܝ ܚܝܠܐ

For he said to Judah, “Let’s build these cities and make walls around them, with towers, gates, and bars. The land is yet before us, because we have sought Yahweh our God. We have sought him, and he has given us rest on every side.” So they built and prospered.

ܘܢܦܩ ܠܘܬܗܘܢ ܙܪܚ ܗܢܕܘܝܐ ܒܚܝܠܐ ܣܓܝܐܐ ܐܠܦ ܐܠܦܝ̈ܢ ܘܒܙܘ̈ܓܐ ܬܠܬܝܢ ܐܠܦܝ̈ܢ ܘܐܬܘ ܘܡܛܘ ܥܕܡܐ ܠܡܐܪܫܐ
lm'rsh' edm' wmTw w'thw 'lpyn thlthyn wbzwg' 'lpyn 'lp sgy'' bkhyl' hndwy' zrkh lwthhwn wnpq
Asa had an army of three hundred thousand out of Judah who bore bucklers and spears, and two hundred eighty thousand out of Benjamin who bore shields and drew bows. All these were mighty men of valor.

ܘܢܦܩ ܐܣܐ ܠܩܘܒܠܗ ܘܥܒܕ ܥܡܗ ܩܪܒܐ ܒܢܚܠܐ ܕܡܐܪܫܐ

Zerah the Ethiopian came out against them with an army of a million troops and three hundred chariots, and he came to Mareshah.

ܘܨܠܝ ܐܣܐ ܩܕܡ ܡܪܝܐ ܐܠܗܗ ܘܐܡܪ ܐܢܬ ܗܘ ܡܪܢ ܥܕܘܪܗ ܕܥܡܟ ܟܕ ܬܫܠܡ ܚܝܠܐ ܣܓܝܐܐ ܒܐܝ̈ܕܝ ܙܥܘܪ̈ܐ ܗܝܕܝܢ ܢܕܥܘܢ ܟܠܗܘܢ ܥܡܘܪ̈ܘܗܝ ܕܥܠܡܐ ܕܫܦܝܪ ܡܬܬܟܠܝܢ ܚܢܢ ܥܠܝܟ ܥܕܪܝܢ ܡܪܝܐ ܐܠܗܢ ܡܛܠ ܕܒܫܡܟ ܐܬܝܢ ܥܠ ܚܝܠܐ ܗܢܐ ܪܒܐ ܡܪܝܐ ܐܠܗܐ ܠܐ ܬܫܘܚܪ ܓܢܒܪܘܬܟ ܡܢܢ ܘܗܝܕܝܢ ܟܕ ܓܡܪ ܐܣܐ ܠܡܨܠܝܘ ܨܠܘܬܗ

Then Asa went out to meet him, and they set the battle in array in the valley of Zephathah at Mareshah.

ܬܒܪ ܡܠܐܟܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܠܗܢܕ̈ܘܝܐ ܩܕܡ ܐܣܐ ܘܩܕܡ ܝܗܘܕܐ ܘܥܪܩܘ ܗܢܕܘ̈ܝܐ
hndwy' werqw yhwd' wqdm 's' qdm lhndwy' dmry' ml'kh thbr
Asa cried to Yahweh his God, and said, “Yahweh, there is no one besides you to help, between the mighty and him who has no strength. Help us, Yahweh our God; for we rely on you, and in your name are we come against this multitude. Yahweh, you are our God. Don’t let man prevail against you.”

ܘܪܕܦ ܐܢܘܢ ܐܣܐ ܘܥܡܐ ܕܥܡܗ ܥܕܡܐ ܠܓܕܪ ܘܢܦܠܘ ܡܢ ܗܢܕܘ̈ܝܐ ܕܠܐ ܡܢܝܢ ܡܛܠ ܕܐܬܬܒܪܘ ܩܕܡ ܡܪܝܐ ܘܩܕܡ ܚܝܠܘ̈ܬܗ ܘܢܣܒܘ ܘܫܒܘ ܫܒܝܬܐ ܣܘܓܐܐ ܕܛܒ

So Yahweh struck the Ethiopians before Asa and before Judah; and the Ethiopians fled.

ܘܚܪܒܘ ܟܠܗܝܢ ܩܘܪ̈ܝܐ ܕܐܝܬ ܚܕܪ̈ܝ ܓܕܪ ܡܛܘܠ ܕܗܘܬ ܕܚܠܬܗ ܕܡܪܝܐ ܥܠܝܗܘܢ ܘܒܙܘ ܟܠܗܝܢ ܩܘܪ̈ܝܐ ܡܛܠ ܕܒܙܬܐ ܣܓܝܐܬܐ ܗܘܬ ܒܗܝܢ
bhyn hwth sgy'th' dbzth' mTl qwry' klhyn wbzw elyhwn dmry' dkhlthh dhwth mTwl gdr khdry d'yth qwry' klhyn wkhrbw
Asa and the people who were with him pursued them to Gerar. So many of the Ethiopians fell that they could not recover themselves, for they were destroyed before Yahweh and before his army. Judah’s army carried away very much booty.

ܘܐܦ ܡܫܟ̈ܢܐ ܕܥܪ̈ܒܝܐ ܐܝܬܝܘ ܘܫܒܘ ܥ̈ܢܐ ܣܘܓܐܐ ܕܛܒ ܘܓܡ̈ܠܐ ܘܐܘܒܠܘ ܠܐܘܪܫܠܡ

They struck all the cities around Gerar, for the fear of Yahweh came on them. They plundered all the cities, for there was much plunder in them.
